Artist's Palette

So, this is a devil's food cake with chocolate buttercream icing covered with vanilla fondant. Alaina was having a painting party for her 6th birthday - maybe we will have the next Picasso on our hands??

Space Shuttle Cake

This has to be one of my favorite cakes that I have made so far. It came together better than I expected. It really was a huge cake but I did not feel it.

The cake is vanilla with white buttercream and vanilla fondant. All was edible.

5th Birthday!

So, Amanda is 5 (already!!) It is hard to believe that she is growing so fast!
This is the cookie cake I made for her class snack. She had a great time helping me put the sparkles on at the end!

Wedding Celebration

Three cakes all covered in purple buttercream (to match the theme color of the party) with white shell border. The top cake was a Lemon-Lime Cake with a pineapple curd filling. The middle cake was a white cake with almond flavoring with pineapple curd filling. The bottom cake was devil's food cake with chocolate pudding filling.

The cakes were topped with white apple blossoms with yellow centers. The flowers were scattered on a pile of juniper green leaves.

Little Rabbit Foo-Foo

This is an almond white cake with buttercream icing. It is covered in vanilla fondant with aqua and avacado colored dots and a border of fondant balls. The top was a little bunny hand painted on fondant.

Baby Bassinet Cake

So, I co-hosted a double mom-to-be shower with 7 other women for work. This is the cake I made for the shower. It was fashioned after a cake made by Pauline Dugas of Pauline's Cake Shop (Breaux Bridge, LA) at the most recent Louisiana ICES Day of Sharing.

The cake was a lot of work, but it held together, none of the fondant fell and the rice crispie treats were as big a hit as the cake. What a fun cake to make!!
In the last picture, I placed a 12 cup coffee pot next to the cake for size reference. The headboard was 9.5 inches at the highest point and the sheet pan was a 9 X 13 inch cake.
***UPDATE***
A picture of my cake was featured in the Louisiana ICES Newsletter.
Even if it is such a small group, I am so excited to be published! :)

Princess Girl Birthday

This was my niece's birthday cake. The cake was a vanilla cake with pineapple filling. The icing was entirely buttercream and topped with a tiara. This cake was a huge success.

Baseball Stadium Birthday

This was for a friend of a co-worker. He is on a team called the D.C. Doggs and his nickname is D.C. Ross. The cake was a almond white cake with buttercream for the majority of the cake. The doors, windows, and the bases on top of the cake were in fondant. The flags and sign at the back were meant to add to the illusion that this was a stadium.

Harlequin Great Dane

Another work birthday. The birthday girl is wanting a harlequin great dane. I learned something new - Scooby Doo is a great dane, too! I guess I never paid close enough attention! (Gotta learn something new every day!)

Wedding Shower

These are cookies I did for one of my best friends. She is getting married in August and I am so thrilled for her!

The cookie is a basic sugar cookie with a fondant cutout on the top. The nails and the pearl necklace were done with royal icing accented with silver dragees for the ring. We picked ribbons based on her wedding colors.

Rectal Exam Birthday Cake

So, you have to remember that I am veterinarian by trade. One of the residents at work, we'll call him "Mike" (oops that's his name!) likes to, no, loves to do rectal exams. So much so that his love inspired this cake. It was a vanilla flavored white cake with vanilla white fondant covering it. The finger is covered in chocolate icing mixed with raspberry preserves...very apropos.

Bookworm Cake

I go tthe idea for this cake from Debbie Brown's 50 Easy Party Cakes.

I had to add a second cake because it just was not enough cake for what I needed. The instructions were easy and the cake was fun to make. There are some areas that I could have added to, but I ran out of time for the finishing touches.

The cake was for my daughter's teachers at school. They seemed quite happy with the cake - no one wanted to cut into it!

Japanese Birthday

One of the interns at work loves all things Japanese. I researched how to say happy birthday to a friend in Japanese. The final cake had green non-pareils in the eyes, but I forgot to take a picture of it! The cat is a maneki - kind of cute but creepy little thing!

Martini Doberge Cake

This is the second attempt at doberge. Better but still not 100%. I am learning. The cake tasted good, though! (Of utmost importance!)

Well, Let me get the other new additions on here!

Double Birthday

These are cakes I did for a local family's birthday party. The horse cake was a new chocolate cake recipe that I tried. It was a devil's food cake - smelled good. From what I hear, tasted good, too!

This is a cake I am donating to a RCHAL (Roman Catholic Homeschool Association of Louisiana) event. It is based from a photo of a stainglassed window.

Easter

Well, Easter has come and gone. It was a long work weekend for me and a hard one. I attended Easter Day celebration with my family and brought a cake for the dessert. It nearly met my expectations but I was also trying a newer medium to me - color flow. The plaque on top and eggs on the side were color flow creations. They are very fragile guys....lesson learned.

I hope y'all enjoy.

Easter Egg Hunt Treats

So, these are sugar egg nests that I decorated with the help of Dear (AKA Mom) for the LVRC/VECC 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt and BBQ. We had so much fun doing these. We made 45 of them....ugh. Glad we did the small ones and not the big boys!

Well, enjoy.

Last Wilton Class Cake

Well, I am finished with the 4 standard Wilton Cake Decorating courses. This is the cake I made for the last class. I gave it to a local church family who just had a baby. I am on a Meals for New Moms committee.

I am very happy with how this cake came out although there were some boo-boos that I knew were there - isn't it always that way???

Cowboy Cake

This is the cake for tomorrow. It is for a co-worker's baby shower. I am happy with how it came out. Not exactly what I drew on the sketch but pretty close.
