Fleur de lis

I had the joy of having two groups of family come in town for the week! We had a celebration with the whole group this past weekend and I made this New Olreans inspired cake for the dinner.
The cake is an Golden Almond cake - one I do not make very often, but is a quite tasty recipe! The icing is real buttercream flavored with butter-vanilla and raspberry. The fleur de lis pieces were fondant. There are dragees placed on the sides - gold 8mm beads and pearls.

Flowers Abound!

This is Amanda's 6th birthday party cake. We went with a floral themed invitation (pictured above) so I thought I would recreate the invite in cake.
Amanda and I had so much fun making this cake! She helped me "decide" where to put the fondant flowers. The cake was a almond white on the bottom and devil's food on the top covered in buttercream with fondant accents.
I am so glad she was my client! I doubt I would get to make this cake for a regular client - it was quite bright and obnoxious! But, it made me smile every time I looked at it!

Baby Shower Camo

This was a baby shower cake with a pink camo theme. The bib is fondant with impression pattern printed along the edges and for the word "Baby".

6th Birthday

This is Amanda's 6th birthday snack cake for school. Cookie cake with a pink camouflage theme. Looking forward to making her party cake next week......watch out for the pictures!

50th Birthday Party

This cake was for a surprise 50th birthday party. Black and white themed party.
...the neat part is the guest of honor was going to be the only one in colored clothing! I am sure it was fun!
This is an almond flavored white cake covered in buttercream with fondant accents. The 50 is a gumpaste/fondant mix. There is a crystal garland around the base to add some bling!

Ducky Baby Shower Cake

This is a cake I made for a co-worker. She was throwing a baby shower for a close friend. I was inspired by a cake I found on the web that featured rubber ducky style fondant figures around the first layer and larger fondant/gum paste ducks on the top. The sides have geometric designs on the top and quilted fondant bordered by buttons on the bottom. There are fondant bead border on the base of the cake.

Camo Cake for the Husband

So, today is Paul's birthday. Besides being a chef-extraordinaire, he is also an avid hunter, fisher, outdoorsman. He would probably love to have more time to play with the wildlife. I hope he loves this cake. (Amanda even helped me make it!!)
The cake is butter vanilla white decorated entirely with buttercream. This was my first attempt at camo - I know how to make it even better next time!! The design is borrowed from the Louisiana Sportsman magazine. I love fleur de lis patterns!
